The Construction track of the NYCHA Resident Training Academy (NRTA) prepares NYCHA residents for entry level opportunities and apprenticeships in the construction industry.
The NRTA Construction 8-week pre-apprenticeship training prepares NYCHA residents to acquire skills and industry certifications to work in the construction trades. Graduates of this training track are referred to union apprenticeships and employment opportunities with union partners and construction contractors.
To qualify for training, you must:
- Be an authorized NYCHA resident
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have valid working documentation
- Be able to work for 8 hours on your feet
- Be able to pass a drug test
- Be able to pass the NRTA entrance exam with a score of 70% in reading and math
- Have a High School Diploma, or GED
The 8 week training runs Monday through Friday, 8am–4pm, with classroom and hands-on lab instruction (in person and/or virtual).
Next Steps
The application for the NRTA is a multiple step process. As a first step, NYCHA residents can register the NRTA entrance exam.
