Connect to this service

Overview

Through the Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA) program, employers have the opportunity to connect with highly trained apprentices for their business.

CRMYA is a two- to three-year apprenticeship program preceded by in-depth career readiness coursework for students. CRMYA is a partnership between NYC Public Schools, CareerWise New York, Big Picture Learning, and the New York Jobs CEO Council.

What incentives are there for my company to hire through this service?

Hosting and training apprentices is an investment in your company’s future that can result in less turnover and fewer wasted training costs. You are also contributing to New York State’s long-term growth. Companies regularly identify recruiting skilled job candidates as a major challenge, but New York’s youth remains massively underemployed.

How soon can this service connect me to talent?

Apprentices apply for employment in the spring and begin their employment in October or February of each year. Employers and apprentices make a two- to three-year commitment when hiring.

What skills and credentials will talent have?

Prior to applying to an apprenticeship opportunity, students participate in:

  • Two to three semesters of career exploration and development courses
  • A pre-apprenticeship training program after being selected for an apprenticeship

All apprenticeship positions are intended to be registered with NYS Department of Labor under a specific occupational title. Apprentices spend two to three years completing work in that title and also receive training and instruction to develop related competencies. Apprentices earn a Certificate of Completion upon program completion.
